
Fazia Ackbarali
In 2008 Fazia graduated from a two year program of study in Viniyoga through the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI). She studied directly under Gary Kraftsow who is the founder of the AVI.
Viniyoga is a therapeutic style of Hatha yoga in the lineage of T.K.V. Desikachar and T. Krishnamacharya. The Sanskrit term implies the appropriate application of yoga to be your personal best. AVI is positioned as a leader in Yoga Therapy. Fazia uses yoga as a big part of her management of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
Fazia graduated from the Sivananda Forest Academy in 2000. The ancient “gurukula” system, where you live and learn with your guru (teacher), is followed strictly at this Ashram situated in the Laurentians. As well Fazia studied at Ryerson University where she gained knowledge of human physiology and anatomy.
Currently Fazia is enrolled in the full time specialist South Asian program at the University of Toronto, while running her yoga practice at pureHealth.
The combination of practicing and teaching daily along with her academic achievements has given Fazia an intuitive, practical knowledge of using yoga for both health benefits and the enrichment of daily life. Her professional guidance, adaptations and selected props help those with special needs gain immediate proficiency.
Yoga therapy refers to the adaptation of yoga techniques to help individuals facing health challenges at any level to manage their condition and help reduce symptoms while enjoying the balance and vitality yoga helps provide both the body and soul.
